Recently, there have been reports in the news about certain types of problematic gypsum products manufactured in China (commonly referred to as drywall or wallboard). These products have been identified in South Florida area homes by Enviro Team Group as early as 2005. These products have been identified as having a sulfur type odor often described as "rotten eggs, a matchbook, onion and/or garlic" however, in some cases; no odor is present or detectable.
- The presence of sulfur type odors often described as “rotten eggs, a matchbook, onion and/or garlic"
- Copper corrosion on air conditioner evaporator coils and other appliances.
- Premature failures from corroded copper components (see image below) in air conditioning cooling coils, electronic equipment, electrical components
- Discolored (dark gray or black) copper plumbing tubing
This issue is currently being investigated by the EPA and the Florida Department of Health, and potential health hazards are undetermined.
Enviro Team offers a non-destructive and cost-effective screening method to assess for the presence of certain discolored/corroded items and odor problems indoors associated with imported Chinese gypsum wallboard products.
